Graphite Powder is composed almost entirely of carbon atoms, arranged in a hexagonal lattice structure. It feels greasy to the touch and easily crumbles into fine particles. It is dark in colour and absorbs most light wavelengths.
It is used in making pencils. The graphite rubs off on paper, leaving dark marks. Its soft, flaky nature makes it a good lubricant for locks, bearings, and machinery. It is an excellent conductor of electricity, used in batteries, electrodes, and electrical brushes.
Its heat resistance makes it useful in crucibles, heat sinks, and even rocket nozzle components. It is used in some eyeliners and hair dyes for its black pigment.
